Topic 1: Managing Safety: The Shipyard Experience 

This session will focus on the current trends, challenges and initiatives in shipyard. 

Session also provide insights into the implementation on HSE management system in special project. 

Speaker Profile: 

Sugam Chakma is a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) lead in shipyard with 18 years of experience with HSE management, operations, training and promotional activities. 

He is currently leading a HSE in a special project.

Topic 2: Sustainability: How SHE Practitioners can Harness the Benefits of the New Bandwagon

In the most recent year, there has been growing attention and demand for ESG and sustainability globally and locally. 

According to SkillsFutures’s first skills demand for the Future Economy Report, Environmental system management framework or policy and Sustainability Management (ESG) have been listed as one of the top skills in demand. In many organizations, SHE practitioner have merged the function into ESG roles in driving the organization’s sustainability performance and in charge of ESG disclosure practice. Occupational Health and Safety performance also one of the key indicator in reflecting organization’s sustainability performance. In the workshop, the following information will be covered: 

Speaker: Ms. Nancy Shen

Nancy graduated from M.Sc. in Environmental Management from National University of Singapore, she holds the Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental and Occupational Safety (BEnvOHS) from the University of Newcastle (Australia).

Currently, she is a member of the GRI peer review committee. 

Nancy Shen is the founder and the principal consultant with ESG & Biz Solutions Pte Ltd. Before she started ESG & Biz Solution, she was working as an independent consultant with Virtus Assure Pte Ltd.

Working and Research Experience

Nancy also has worked for over 12 years in the offshore shipping industry with a focus on Occupational Health, Safety and Environment(HSE) Management with trackable audit experience and expertise. She has worked with a multi-cultural and diverse workforce and has travelled globally. She has rich experiences in planning and undertaking management system audits and providing professional advisory services for continual improvements.

Nancy has in-depth knowledge of SOLAS, ISM Code, MARPOL, ILO and IMO regulations, as well as Singapore NEA and MOM regulations on environment, labor relations and occupational health and safety issues. She also has a deep understanding of sustainability reporting requirements and GRI standards, with trackable consulting and research experience on sustainability reporting. Nancy is a certified lead auditor for ISO 9001 and 14001 management systems. She is also working as a sessional lecturer at the University of Newcastle (Australia) and examiner of the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), UK.

Teaching Experience

Nancy is also teaching in a few local universities on Environmental sustainability and ESG modules, which include Nanyang Technology University, James Cook University and University of Newcastle (Australia). 

Sustainability Consulting Experience

Nancy has successfully completed the sustainability reporting projects in various industries, including shipping, logistics, energy, transportation, mining, consumer services, building and construction amongst others.
